چکیده

Arteriovenous graft (AVG) a. Regular Access Blood Flow (Qa) or Doppler ultrasound stenosis (DUS) screening increases the detection of AVG stenosis compared to dynamic venous pressure (DVP)/clinical examination. (Level II evidence) b. Regular Qa screening with pre-emptive angioplasty does not reduce AVG thrombosis or prolong AVG survival. (Level I & II evidence) c. Whether regular DUS screening with pre-emptive angioplasty reduces AVG thrombosis or prolongs survival is not known. (mixed results, Level I & II evidence) d. Whether regular Qa or DUS screening coupled with pre-emptive surgical repair reduces AVG thrombosis or prolongs survival is not known. e. Regular static venous pressure (SVP) screening with pre-emptive angioplasty does not reduce AVG thrombosis or prolong survival. (Level II evidence)

Vascular access surveillance: evaluation of combining dynamic venous pressure and vascular access blood flow measurements.

BACKGROUND/AIMS Vascular access thrombosis is one of the most morbid problems encountered by hemodialysis patients. Surveillance protocols utilizing venous pressure (Vp) and vascular access blood flow (VABF) measurements have been employed to preserve vascular access. We undertook a study to evaluate combined dynamic Vp and VABF measurements in the identification of vascular access impairment. ...

Surveillance of arteriovenous hemodialysis access: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVES Hemodialysis centers regularly survey arteriovenous (AV) accesses for signs of dysfunction. In this review, we synthesize the available evidence to determine to what extent proactive vascular access monitoring affects the incidence of AV access thrombosis and abandonment compared with clinical monitoring. METHODS We searched electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane CENTRAL, ...

Surveillance and Monitoring of Dialysis Access

Vascular access is the lifeline of a hemodialysis patient. Currently arteriovenous fistula and graft are considered the permanent options for vascular access. Monitoring and surveillance of vascular access are an integral part of the care of hemodialysis patient. Although different techniques and methods are available for identifying access dysfunction, the scientific evidence for the optimal m...

Effect of combination of alcohol and Betadine on the severity of inflammation in the vascular access site in hemodialysis patients

Background: Inflammation in the vascular access site results in infection, which is the second leading cause of death in hemodialysis patients. However, there is no specific protocol available for sterilization before vascular access in such patients. Aim: to determine the effect of the combination of alcohol and Betadine on the severity of inflammation in the vascular access site in hemodialys...

Effect of online haemodialysis vascular access flow evaluation and pre-emptive intervention on the frequency of access thrombosis

Introduction. Guidelines advocate surveillance of vascular access to reduce incidences of thrombosis. However, the value of online vascular access flow monitoring is still under debate. Methods. Through a systematic literature search, the effect of online access flow surveillance combined with pre-emptive intervention on thrombosis frequency is reviewed. Results. Due to methodological differenc...

Automated intravascular access pressure surveillance reduces thrombosis rates.

Although monitoring of vascular accesses by physical examination is nearly as sensitive as surveillance measurements by vascular access pressure when performed by examiners, the frequency of examinations is limited by time. We developed intravascular access pressure surveillance as a surrogate to physical examination. Using real-time data from hemodialysis machines, we derived intravascular acc...
